Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) RiderCourses are conducted at the Boone National Guard Center/Army Aviation Support Facility in Frankfort, Ky. We offer the Basic and the Experienced RiderCourses.

 

Basic RiderCourse (BRC)

The BRC is designed for beginning riders. Approximately 5 hours of classroom instruction and 10 hours of riding exercises in a controlled environment provide a complete introduction to motorcycling. The course is conducted over three sessions. Motorcycles and helmets are provided for your use during the course. Boone Center currently has 8 range bikes. Class size is limited to 12 students.

 Prerequisite: students must be able to ride a bicycle.

 

 Classroom instruction will be conducted on Friday from 6-10pm. Range will be Saturday and Sunday from 8am – 3pm. (approximate)

 

The course is free to current Army or Air Guard members. For all others the cost is $100.00. Payment will be due upon registration. Payments may be made by check (made out to KGMR) or PayPal.

 

A Kentucky Motorcycle License Waiver will be available to students who successfully complete the class and do not have their KY Motorcycle License.

 

Required items for the course are:

 

1) If using your personal motorcycle, it must have all systems operational. (Brakes, lights, etc).  Range bikes are available (8 total), on a first come, first serve basis.

 

2) Full face or 3/4 helmet with eye protection (Face shield on helmet or ballistic goggles or safety glasses). Helmets are provided if needed. HALF HELMETS ARE NOT AUTHORIZED FOR THE BRC PER MSF.

 

3) Long sleeve shirt OR jacket. (Light colored L/S shirts are recommended in hot weather).

 

4) Full fingered gloves.

 

5) Long pants in good condition (No holes, rips, or tears).

 

6) Over-the-ankle, sturdy boots.

 

7) KY Drivers license, current insurance card and motorcycle registration. (Insurance and registration needed if using personal motorcycle.)

 

Current Air or Army Guard members are authorized to take this course, based on their Unit Commander's approval, in lieu of Drill per the TAG policy letter dated 01 Feb 08. A copy of policy letter is available if needed.

 

Class is limited to 12 students and will be filled according to receipt of applications.

 

 

Experienced RidersCourse (ERC)

 

The ERC Suite provides current motorcyclists lifelong opportunities for rider education and training. ERC consists of three separate one-day RiderCourses: 1) Skills Practice RiderCourse; 2) Skills Plus RiderCourse; and 3) the License Waiver RiderCourse. Availability is limited. 

Skills Practice RiderCourse is designed for riders who have successfully completed the BRC or who possess basic riding skills. 

Skills Plus RiderCourse is designed for riders who are already licensed and frequently ride. Passengers may participate. 

License Waiver RiderCourse is designed for riders with permits who do not possess a state motorcycle license or endorsement. A state may use this as a license waiver course for experienced riders.

 

ERC’s are held on either Saturday or Sunday. Classes begin promptly at 8:00am and run to approx. 3:30pm. There are 12 seats in each class.

 

If you are a member of the Air/ Army National Guard, the class is provided at no cost. For all others, the tuition is $50.00. Payment is due upon registration. Payment can be made by mailed check (made out to KGMR) or PayPal.
